Dotloop now requires Brokers and Agents to opt-out of data sharing

Brokers and Agents that use the Zillow-owned transaction management platform Dotloop are now required to opt-out of a new data-sharing policy if they don’t want the company to share their data with third-party affiliates including Zillow.

This does not affect you if you are not a Dotloop user. However you are receiving this email because our records indicate that you may have used Dotloop in the past or your firm may be a Dotloop user.

Effective July 17, 2020, Dotloop will be able to share aggregated transaction information with its affiliated companies including Zillow, going back to January 1, 2016.

Does this apply to me?

This does not affect you if you are not a Dotloop user. If you are a Dotloop user this new policy means your transaction information could be shared with Dotloop affiliates, including Zillow unless you notify Dotloop that you do not want your information shared. This data-sharing policy is included in Dotloop’s Privacy Policy

Below is an excerpt about Dotloop’s data-sharing guidelines from Dotloop’s Privacy Policy

We, [Dotloop], may share information provided to us on or after January 1, 2016 with Zillow Group and its subsidiaries (“Affiliate Sharing”). We or these affiliates may use the information we collect for our internal purposes, for example, to understand and gain insight into trends in the real estate market and to improve our home valuation models. These insights are applied at an aggregate level; neither we nor our affiliates will use data from individual transactions or properties to obtain leverage regarding specific transactions or inform decisions about individual properties. If you have registered for a user account (a “Registered User”), you can opt out of Affiliate Sharing by emailing us at support@dotloop.com. As a Registered User, you control the sharing permissions applicable to your view of your loop(s); other participants in the same loop(s) may make different choices regarding whether to share their loop views, which may contain similar or duplicative information. If you opt out of Affiliate Sharing prior to the Effective Date of this policy, none of your information will be shared with our affiliates; if you opt out after the Effective Date, your choice will be effective only for information you provide after you opt out.

What should I do?

If you are not a Dotloop user this does not affect you and no action is required. If you are a Dotloop user you should familiarize with Dotloop’s Privacy Policy. More immediately if you want to stop the data sharing described above you will want to send Dotloop an email requesting that your information not be shared with its affiliates, including Zillow to support@dotloop.com.

How do I contact Dotloop about this?

You can contact Dotloop about its Privacy and Data-Sharing Policy by emailing support@dotloop.com
