What is a browser toolbar? A browser toolbar is a toolbar normally located at the top of your browser. Toolbars were originally intended to expand the functionality and efficiency of the browser. Recently toolbars have become associated with malware or create a vulnerability through which viruses can gain access to your computer.

How did I get one? Toolbars are often packaged with other downloads. The companies that create them pay other vendors to bundle the toolbar with software you are looking for. When you download your software and don’t uncheck the box for the toolbar, you’ve installed one.

Do I need one? If you use it, yes; if you don’t, no. Experience shows us if you are not familiar with toolbars and how they get in/how to remove them, they can build up over time. If you don’t remove them, they can reduce the usable real estate on your screen and become very annoying. They can also degrade the responsiveness of your browser and create security vulnerabilities.

• Use the drop down menu to show all add-ons.
• Highlight the toolbar you want to disable and click the disable button on the bottom right.
• You might receive a pop-up window with further options. Check the appropriate blocks and click the disable button.
