Change in the new year is inevitable and that’s also true with how your listings will be numbered in the Paragon MLS system! Starting on the morning of Friday, December 30th 2016 all MLS numbers will begin with “17.”
The NNRMLS has been following this numbering schema for a number of years. Listing numbers generally begin with the last number, or numbers, of the year they are listed; however, the correlation of MLS-number-to-year is not precise. As is the case with 2017, the first date of the year can fall a weekend, which makes the following workday a federal holiday. For this reason, our switch to the “17” series will begin at the tail-end of 2016.
DON’T PROMISE YOUR SELLER A DEFINITE MLS NUMBER!
In past years we’ve received calls from agents disappointed that the number they “promised” their seller if they list on January 1 did not get assigned to their listing. There is not a tried and true way to make your listing have a certain MLS number. We wanted to pass on a word of warning…and hopefully set some realistic expectations: Although the new listing numbers will begin on December 30th, 2016 THAT DOES NOT MEAN you will be able to “time” your listing to be a certain number; say “170000001.” The only thing you can count on is that it will begin with 17.
As in years prior we encourage you to contact our staff if you have any questions or comments about this or other issues.
The NNRMLS staff hopes that you have a Happy, Safe and Prosperous 2017!
